Pakistan’s government has long been working to improve the tax system and to increase business accountability. Several measures have been taken to tighten the tax net so that people will be encouraged to file their taxes. As far as taxes are concerned, Pakistan is no different from other countries. As an agency of the Balochistan government, Balochistan Revenue Authority (BRA) collects and manages sales taxes on services in the province. These taxes apply to both businesses and individuals offering services in various sectors.

The Balochistan Revenue Authority (BRA) was formally established on the 3rd of July, 2015. This entity was set up as an autonomous “Body Corporate”. There is a Chairperson and at least four members: one each for Tax Operations, Audit, Information Technology, and Human Resources. Members of the Board are to be appointed by the Government Committee via open merit with performance-based market salary for a period of three years. The Chairperson of the Authority shall be the Secretary of Government of Balochistan. In order to generate judicious revenue for sustainable development, this organization hopes to reach and stabilize a certain level. To attain such a visionary height, the BRA developed a modern, efficient tax management system. Services in Balochistan are subject to Sales Tax

Sales tax on services must be registered with the government based on clear guidelines. Taxable service providers are required to register with the BRA. The process of becoming a provider of multiple taxable services can be completed with just one application. Your application must include all taxable services, along with your documents of registration.

In order to deliver taxable services in more than one province, each provider must register separately and pay taxes accordingly. Registered parties must include registration numbers on all invoices, bills, vouchers, and similar documents.

Since the accountability situation in the country is improving, everyone who is eligible to pay tax needs to register as soon as possible.

The BRA Registration process:

  • First, visit the ‘Taxpayer Facilitation Portal’ of BRA’s website, click “e-services” and then “e-registration”. If you already have an NTN, type in your NTN number, CNIC number, and name, then click “Ok”.
  • After submitting your information, you will be taken to a form containing pre-filled information stored with FBR.
  • The FBR website requires you to first register an NTN if you do not have one
  • The registration form will then be displayed following your input of the NTN/CNIC. As well, AOP companies will have to provide details about their directors and shareholders.
  • Now provide your company’s details
  • Then enter your bank account details
  • Your application will be completed and ready to be printed for submission

Once you submit all of your relevant documents, BRA will process your application. Once you are accepted, you will receive your passcode and activation details by email and SMS. Once the BRA sends you a BNTN, your registration is complete. You may need to provide additional documentation if the BRA deems it necessary. In addition, an application can be rejected if it is clear that the applicant provided incorrect information. Upon submission of the completed application to the authority, the authority will notify the applicant of the reason(s) for rejection within 30 days.
