The Foundation

As the country’s principal commercial and industrial hub, the Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) represents a mainstream of economic activities. Founded in 1959, it was formed through the amalgamation of four trade organizations in Karachi at the time, namely, the Pakistan Merchants’ Association, the Buyers and Shippers’ Chamber, and the Chamber of Commerce Pakistan. According to the Trade Organization Ordinance 1961, which regulates the workings of the trade bodies in the country, the organization was registered.

KCCI plays an important role in promoting economic growth by actively engaging with government authorities at federal and provincial levels on issues related to taxation, industry development policies and infrastructure development projects which impact businesses operating in Pakistan’s commercial capital. In addition to its advocacy efforts at national level, KCCI provides support services such as seminars/conferences/workshops for its members to network locally while providing them with information about opportunities available in their respective sectors through quarterly newsletters issued by different departments within KCCI.
